Yeah, I’m one of “those” Galaxy Quest geeks. Admit it, you are too.
I read a while back that there’s a difference between “purpose” and “mission”. Purpose is WHAT you want to do in your life, your passion, your reason for being. Mission is HOW you are going to accomplish your purpose. A man’s purpose stays more or less consistent over time, but his mission may change and evolve wildly as he learns and grows.
So I’m posting to say that my purpose has not changed. I am still passionate about helping men find happiness by teaching them the principles that have changed my own life so dramatically for the better.
But my mission has changed many times over the years, and it continues to change. I am working on the next iteration as we speak.
It’s a major step from local, in-person workshops and support groups to online, worldwide stuff. It’s not quite ready yet, so I can’t hype it up too much. But I wanted to let you know that I haven’t given up on my purpose. Even through life’s natural changes, even through frustration and setback, I still move forward.
If you know your purpose, but haven’t quite figured out your mission, don’t worry about it. Do something, anything. Learn from the successes and failures of that mission, then move on to the next iteration. You don’t have to be perfect now. In fact, don’t even think of it as trying to make it “perfect”. The whole concept of purpose and mission implies that there is no destination, only a journey of continual growth.
